Theme: A War Against Masculinity.

Group Members:
Haley Moses, Sierra Longmire, Evie Davis, Hannah Than Win

Movie Style model: Hunger Games

Points of comparison:
  • Katniss tries to overcome the oppression of the government just as Hamlet tries to overcome the power and deceit of his uncle who is the new king.
  • Similar to Gertrude drinking the poison, Katniss and Peeta gather poison berries at the end of the Hunger Games and nearly eat them, which would cause them to die as Gertrude and Claudius did.
  • The Hunger Games experiences unnatural deaths just as Hamlet also witnesses the death of others at the end of the play
  • Gale, in the Hunger Games, was abandoned by Katniss when she left for the games, similar to Ophelia, who was abandoned by Hamlet, who wanted to pursue revenge. Both Gale and Ophelia were overpowered with loneliness and melancholy.
The use of manipulation to gain power and control is seen in The Hunger Games within the government to plot the district citizens against each other while in Hamlet, when Claudius sends spies to report on Hamlet.
